n 2021 we were approached by the managing agents for this student accommodation block after they had received a (B2) EWS1 certificate. Kent Fire and Rescue then went on to give the building a prohibition notice that required a waking watch to be in place due to the higher-risk occupants within the building.

Blakeney Leigh provided a scope and strategy for remediation alongside Kent County Fire and Rescue and procured the works to start in 2022 completing in early 2023.

The site had three buildings all measured under 11m but with Expanded Polystyrene Insulation (EPS) render on a structurally insulated panel (SIP) which also contained EPS. There were also small sections of High Pressure Laminate (HPL). All combustible materials were removed including behind brick and blockwork and replaced with Rockwool before re-cladding the building to match like for like. Timber decking was stripped back and replaced with Aluminum where required or protected walkways and handrails for roof-only access.
